KDPW, the National Deposit of Securities Joint Stock Company is the central authority in Poland responsible for administration and supervision of the deposit and clearing system in securities trade. This trade is based on the principle of absolute dematerialization of securities.
The main functions of KDPW include:

  • clearing of transactions executed on the public securities market.
  • storing securities listed for public trade.
  • payment of issuers’ debt to owners of securities.
  • monitoring compliance of sizes of traded securities issues.
  • managing the Clearings Fund.

GPW, the Warsaw Stock Exchange Joint Stock Company is the institution responsible for organization of trade in financial instruments. The stock exchange ensures concentration of sellers’ and buyers’ offers in one place at one time so that to establish the rate of exchange and execute transactions. The following securities are traded at the Stock Exchange: shares, bonds, preemptive rights, allotment certificates, investment certificates, and derivative instruments: futures, options, index participation units.

KNF, Commission for Financial Supervision monitors the capital market, exercises insurance supervision, pension supervision and complementary supervision over financial conglomerates comprising the supervised organizations. The objective of supervision over the financial market is to ensure proper functioning, stability, security and transparency of that market, general trust to the financial market, and protecting the interests of this market players. Other functions of the Commission include:

  • taking actions aimed at proper functioning of the financial market,
  • taking actions aimed at development and competitiveness of the financial market,
  • performing education and information activities in regard of the functioning of the financial market,
  • participation in preparing draft acts of law in respect of financial market supervision,
  • creating opportunities for amicable and negotiable resolution of disputes between financial market players, particularly with respect to disputes arising out of contractual relations between organizations subject to supervision by the Commission and buyers of services provided by such organizations,
  • performance of other tasks as stipulated in applicable Acts of law.

SII, Stock Exchange Issuers’ Society is a self-government type organization of companies quoted at the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The Society works for the development of the capital market through education, promotion and lobbying activities. It acts in favor of integrating the issuers’ environment through organizing training courses, seminars, etc. It represents the common interest of this group of companies.
The Society’s basic method of work is to communicate issuers’ expectations concerning improvements in the functioning of the securities market to regulatory authorities and to specify proposed amendments to legal regulations so that to increase attractiveness of the stock exchange as the place of obtaining capital for businesses.

SII, Individual Investors’ Society is involved in numerous activities aimed at protecting and assisting investors, including through intervention on their behalf and for their benefit. Through numerous training courses and conferences, the Society facilitates the process of investment decision-making for the investors. It represents the investors at General Meetings of Shareholders of listed companies. It provides legal and analytic assistance to its Members.
